WELCOME TO IIMA Upcoming Events: 23rd January 2009: Mike Nock Trio 18th February 2009: Flap! 13th March 2009: Andrea Keller Quartet w/ Phil Slater Check out the events page for more info About IIMA: The Illawarra Improvised Music Association (IIMA) was formed in 2002 by Troy Lever, Eric Dunan, Jens Hoppe and Stephen Vickers to bring "Live" improvised music to the Illawarra. The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music in conjunction with IIMA have been presenting modern jazz to Wollongong since thier inagural performances in 2002 which featured Mike Nock and Phil Slater. Since then we have presented some of Australia's finest Jazz artists including: Don Rader | James Morrison | Bernie McGann | Carl Dewhurst | Judy Bailey | Mark Levine | Alister Spence | Will Guthrie | Matt Keegan | Mike Nock | Andrew Robson | Phil Slater | Leigh Barker | Michelle Nicolle | Sandy Evans | Andy Sugg | Cameron Undy | Eric Ajaye | Anna Thompson | Marc Hannaford | The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra | Jodie Michael | James Muller | Jamie Oehelers | Willow Neilson | Gerard Masters | Andrew Robson | Ben Winkleman | Simon Ferenci | Jacam Manricks | Mark Issacs The important link that makes this all possible is music education. Over the past 4 years music students in Wollongong, especially those enrolled in the Jazz Program at the Conservatorium, have had direct contact and exposure to these world-class musicians through master-classes as well as performance. As students become aware of the value of hearing these musicians perform, they become the discerning, appreciative audiences who make up the crucial connection between performer and listener. This new, young audience mbined with an already strong jazz fan base has made Wollongong ocone of the most important stops for jazz musicians in Australia. |
